How to give your developer GoDaddy access

A GoDaddy delegate signs in with their own account to work on your products. You keep your login, billing details, and ownership.

Before you start

The account owner should send the invitation. Have the developer’s name and email ready. Agree whether the job involves the website, the domain, or both. The recipient needs a GoDaddy account to accept.

Follow these steps

  1. Open Delegate Access

    Sign in to your GoDaddy account and open Delegate Access. Under People who can access my account, choose Invite to Access. Enter the developer’s name and email. GoDaddy’s illustrated instructions show the invitation screens.

  2. Choose the right access level

    For website work, Products & Domains is a common choice. For domain-only work, consider Domains Only. Accounts Connection Only keeps a connection without current product access. Products, Domains, & Purchase also permits purchases using a stored payment method; choose it only when that is intended.

  3. Check domain permissions separately

    Domain access can depend on folder permissions. In your Domain Portfolio, review the relevant folder’s delegate permissions. Management Access and Transfer Access are separate choices. A DNS update usually needs management access; it is not a reason to grant transfer access. Do not move the domain just to let a developer work on it.

  4. Send the invitation and confirm acceptance

    Select Invite. GoDaddy emails the recipient and notifies you after acceptance. The recipient should open the intended product and, if needed, the domain. An accepted invitation does not prove every domain folder has the required permission. Expired invitations need to be sent again.

  5. Remove access when it is no longer needed

    On Delegate Access, find the delegate and use the edit/removal controls. Check the domain folder permissions as part of handover. Confirm that you can still open your website and domain through your own account.

The developer has accepted and confirmed the exact product or domain needed. You understand the scope and still control the account.

If you get stuck

Can I limit product access to just one website?

Do not assume the product-level role is a one-website invitation. Check the scope shown in your account before sending it; domain folder controls are a separate feature.

Can a delegate change my password?

Delegates cannot view or change account credentials or manage payment methods. They can still make consequential changes to permitted products. Access should match the work.

The developer cannot find the domain

Check that it is registered in this account, that their access level covers domains, and that the relevant folder permits management access.
